The Junior Choir came into existence in January 2001 when two talented Senior Choir members viz., Bella Coelho and Bernice Francis nee Rosario in coordination with the then Reverend Father Benny Travas, proposed to launch a choral group to sing for the 10.15 am mass on Sunday. This was simply done to re-organize the group that had been previously responsible and did not have proper guidance. The idea was floated at various services and in no time a large group of enthusiastic children joined the Junior Choir.
At that time out of the many young ones, the junior choir was privileged to have around 6 young musicians who were learning to play the key board at a music learning institution that was run by David Braganza at the premises of CJM Matric section. The young musicians were given the opportunity to display their skills at playing at least 2 hymns for the services. Needless to say, the Junior Choir is the talent hunt group of the parish that has produced talented children who are the future of the community. Today, Bella Coelho is proud to share that Patricia Mendes, Sheena Moniz, Nolasco Moniz and Leanne Coelho are fruits of the Junior Choir who are now, very responsible musicians and choristers of the Senior Choir and Presbytery Choir.
About a decade ago, the children’s Sunday liturgical service was moved to Saturday Evening @ 6:00 pm.
The Choir is managed by Bella Coelho and is supported by Aloysius Soares and Nolasco Moniz, with Pierina Pereira as the Musician. The Junior choir consists of 15 youngsters out of which 4 are Psalmists. Practice is held on Friday’s at 7:30pm.
The Junior Choir welcomes youngsters to join the choir ministry.
